Project Life Week 10

I tried doing my Project Life videos a little different this week.  I show you how I set it up and my thought process doing up my layout for this week.  Let me know what you think of the new way of doing it.

Scrapbook Process: The Secret Garden

I made this layout for the YouTube Layout Hop for March.  The challenge was to use Mixed Media.  Well, I don't normally do this type of scrapbooking, so I found it a bit of a challenge.  So I did a lot of research on types of mixed media.  I browsed Printerest and a lot of galleries on mixed media.  Well low and behold, Two Peas in a Bucket put on a video using mixed media.  I totally loved it, so I scraplifted it.  I take no responsibility for the sketch or design of this layout.  But I really like how it turned out.

The only supplies I used were, white cardstock, a piece of pattern paper from the DIY shop from Crate Paper.  I used a chipboard piece from the Trendsetter line from Crate paper.  Stickers from Amy Tan Yes Please Line and Mr. Huey's sprays.  I used Buttercup, Mint Julep, and Dewey.  I also used Gesso paint.  So a very minimal supply layout.  I might have to try this type of page again.

Early Years Album....work in progress

So, today I thought I would just share one of my biggest undertakings for right now.  I know I'm not going to finish this month, next month, or even the month after.  This might be a year long process.  But I'm hoping not.

I have gone through all of my pictures and memorabilia and separated it up by years.  If I wasn't sure what the year was, I put it in the best guess scenario.  I also have some pictures in a pile that I wasn't sure what the year was, but I knew it was before I left home, I just put in a "no year" category.  (This is the pile I'm working on right now.)

I took a picture of my table that I have everything on....YIKES!!!  What a mess!  I have to get at least some of it gone before next month when we put the patio table outside....hopefully the snow is gone and it's a lot warmer.

The video of the "progress" is below if you would like to see what I have so far.

Thanks for watching and have a great day!!

Smoldering look

So the other layout (Little Moments) didn't really turn out the way I planned.  However, this layout exceeded my expectations.  I already knew what color scheme I wanted to use.  I have another layout from the same place, but this time I was in the pictures.  I made a layout using a pink, black/grey, and aqua color scheme.  I wanted to use the same colors, but I wanted to change the feel of it.

Because I already new the colors I wanted it use, it was pretty easy to go into the Kit (Studio Calico Neverland Kit for March) and pick out the paper I wanted to use. Unfortunately, there really was only one piece of pink paper that I could use. So with that being said, I went into my scrap stash to see what was there. I found 3 pieces of patterned paper that helped bring it all together.  I couldn't find the aqua/mint color I was looking for so I ended up using some new paper from the Party Day collection from Crate Paper.  It coordinated so well with the other colors.

I really love the fact that I got to mix old product with new product.  I feel like I don't use enough of my scraps up and they are really starting to get away on me.  So a small goal for me is to use at lease one piece of old scrap paper on each layout.  (I will make a good attempt anyway.)

This is the full page view.

Here is a close up of the very gorgeous Mr. Depp.

This is a look at the embellishment cluster to the left of the photo.

Little Moments

Ok, so sometimes you try an idea out and it doesn't completely go the way you wanted.  This would be that time.  I tried experimenting with the mask that we got in the Studio Calico kit for March.  I used Gesso Paint with the mask.  I was hoping to get a bit of dimention to the layout.  I'm not completely happy with how it turned out.

The supplies I used are:

Maggie Holmes -  Sky Paper, script paper
Close to My Heart - White Daisy Cardstock
Amy Tan - Yes Please (stamp set, rub-ons, ribbon)
Dear Lizzy - washi tape (project life kit)
Studio Calico - Neverland (printables, stamp set, wood verner)
- Geotags (January Block Party Kit.)
Basic Grey - Enamel Dots
Gesso paint

What can your silhouette do?

Ok so I'm not a cake decorator. Nor am I the greatest baker. But I have tried my hand at a different decorating technique today. It is my husband's birthday today, so for his cake (lemon) I iced it with lemon cream cheese icing. But I didnt want to make more icing to pipe out the "happy birthday". Here comes the silhouette to the rescue.

I chose a stencil font for the letters and just made sure it would fit across the cake. I cut it out of normal cardstock. (I used a scrap piece.). Then I put some food coloring in a spray container I got at the dollar store. I added some water and a little sugar just to give the food coloring something to hold on to. I placed the "mask" down and sprayed.

It isn't a very pretty cake. But I think the end result was ok. (Better than a plain cake.). Besides the cake was pretty good.

More cards

So since I posted the video for my giveaway, I was bombarded with comments on my YouTube page and my blog. I feel so overwhelmed by this positivity that came from my fellow crafters. You have all put a smile in my heart that will last a long time.

So today I decided to show some cards that I've been making with the March card kit from Studio Calico. I don't know how I feel about the card kit yet. Don't get me wrong I love making cards, but I only typically send out birthday cards. So I don't want to make too many cards and then they sit around collecting dust. (I've had this happen before).

Also on another note, I will be cutting back on my crafting purchases. My daughter is getting braces on this month and soon jaw surgery. My son will be getting his wisdom teeth removed soon as well. Each of these things I have to pay for and right now the total is well over $10,000. So I hope everyone understands. I will still be crafting, but on more of a budget. Who knows, this might even lead into a different set of videos on how to scrapbook on a dime.

See you all soon.

You are a Strong Woman Layout

Well I didn't get the layout video finished last night.  I had over 2 hours of video to edit.  It didn't help that I left the camera running while I was making supper....LOL.  But I did finish the editing last night and I finished the voice over this morning.

I must say I'm really happy with how the layout turned out.  I really felt a sense of accomplishment to see it finished and in the album.  I finished another layout of my grandmother on her wedding day and they look so awesome together.  I didn't do any journaling on the layout, I did a story up about my grandmother and printed it out.  (It turned out to be 4 pages, who knew I had that much to tell.)  I printed these out on some cream cardstock bases to make them match the layout.  I added some patterned paper and enamel dots to the top and bottom of the pages just to make it fit in with the 2 layouts.

This is the full view of the layout

This is a close up of the floral embelishment on the right side of the page...you can see hints of the gold lamay color shine.  It just gives a hint of gold when you tilt the page a certain way.
This is the top part of the title.  I really love the feather element

This is the left floral embelishment.  I really like how it turned out.

Here is the video.  Please leave a comment below and let me know what you think of the layout.

5th and Frolic Heritage layout Prep

I have been busy trying to get some old photos into some albums.  I'm so worried that they are going to get ruined just sitting in a box. I would much rather have them in an album to look at, at this point.  So my process to get these pictures into albums is using a "Project Life" concept.  Although it isn't a completely Project life approach, I'm pretty happy with how it's starting to look.  Certain pages will look like the project life template.  But the other pages might either be an 8 1/2 x 11 to fit some memorabilia in, or it might be an actual 12 x 12 layout.  I am starting to really like how the album is looking.  Even though you would think that the different page styles wouldn't go together, they really do.

With that being said, as I'm starting to put the pictures into the page protectors, I will pull out a few pictures that I feel need to be put onto a 12 x 12 page.  Some pages just need that special look.  In this case, I had some pictures of my grandmother when she was very young.  (I already made a layout of her wedding photo, and I wanted this one to go beside it and have kind of the same feel.)    I pulled some products from the 5th and Frolic collection from Dear Lizzy.  Some of these patterns have such a nostalgia look to them, I couldn't pass them by.

Below I attached a video showing some of the products that I pulled to make this layout.  I always pull a lot of product, so don't think for a minute that I used all of it.  Could you imagine how full the page would be if I did....LOL. If you have any questions about some of the products, just leave a comment below and I'll be glad to help.  Stay tuned for the process video....coming soon to a YouTube near you.

Back on the blogging wagon

Ok I'm guilty. I haven't been blogging. I've had a hard time getting on here to put information on here. But I've come to the realization that I need to. I love to craft and I need to document more of my process on how I did certain pages. I get asked at times how I did a certain process and if I blog about it, it's right there in black and white. And let's face it. My memory isn't very good, so I should document just so I remember how I did something.

With that being said, if you haven't been following me on YouTube, go over and check my channel out. Just search, MaggieMylow. That's the name of my channel. I subscribe to the Studio Calico scrapbook and project life kits and I do several process videos of the layouts I've made using the kit. I also put my haul videos on there. (Which are probably too many...lol.).

I'm posting some picture of some cards I made this weekend. I signed up for the Happy Mail card making class from Studio Calico. It came with an exclusive stamp set which I have to say is pretty awesome. (Sometimes I take these classes just for the stamp. But this time I decided to attempt to do the class just to see if it was good or not. I have to say, so far, I'm impressed. I just wish they gave you a supply list before you start the class. Just in case you don't have a certain ink pad. I've managed with the supplies I've had on hand. Which feels good to use some of my old stash.)

So the first picture is of all the cards I made. The next pictures if each individual card. I also put a video below of one of my scrapbook videos just so you can find me easier.
