Guest Scrapper on The O'Banion's Blog

I am so excited.  I was asked last Friday if I would be a Guest Scrapper on Amanda's Blog.  I was so thrilled when she asked me.  One, because I've never been asked to do anything like this before.  Two, I have only every really scrapooked for myself and was very humbled when she asked me to do this guest spot.  It's not that I don't think I'm a good scrapbooker, I just don't think I'm in the same caliber as some other scrapbookers.  Like I said, I do it for myself.  If I'm making a page, I'm making it pretty for me.  Maybe that's why I'm so particular on some of my pages.  I have litterally picked up an item and moved it over 1/8 of an inch.  That's just rediculous.

Amanda asked me a series of questions, great questions, that I was to answer.  Let me tell you, it was very interesting putting my scrapbooking style and theory down on paper (on screen, I guess.)  I never really thought about why I did things, I just did it.  But now that I put it all down on paper, it made more sense as to why I was doing my layouts the way I have been.  I just did 2 layouts after I had sent her my answers back, and all of a sudden my "scrapbooking theory" was ringing in my head.  I was starting to put my picture on the paper and I was saying  in my head, "Ya, that's why I put that picture there."  It was very interesting.  I was like an outsider looking in for the first time.

So, in hind sight, it was such an amazing experience to get all of my thought process down and theory for doing this the way that I do.  Thank you again Amanda for the opportunity and I hope that we can do more of these in the future together.

I heart this girl

I really love how this layout turned out.  I especially love the looks my neice is giving in these photos.  This was the first day that I had met my neice.  My sister lives over 14 hours away, so there really aren't too many visits back and forth between the 2 of us.  My mom has had the fortunate experience of seeing her alot over the past 2 years and she warned me that Hailey was extremely shy.  So with that information in my back pocket, I played a little more on the defencive side.  I wouldn't be too loud or talk to her too much.  It wasn't too long and she was sitting beside me and smiling and laughing.  I just love her so much.  Everytime I look at these pictures it warms my heart.

I used the Studio Calico kit for May called Planetarium.  I really wanted to hoard that Elle's Studio paper and I had a really hard time forcing myself to use it.  But in my heart I knew that I would hoard it forever and it would sit in my stash and never get used.  "Use it while you love it." as Shimelle Lain would say.  So I did and I'm glad.  I really love the look of it on the background.  Thanks for looking.  I can't post the video here, so head on over to YouTube and check out the process video..

50 Projects Challenge

At the end of April, I joined the 50 Projects Facebook group.  This group was set up by Tiffany Wagner O'Grady.  The premiss behind the group is to create 50 projects before you buy any more supplies.  I found this group from Nicole Jones (nicolejones911 on YouTube.)  She had always mentioned that she was always buying products but never really using them.  I could totally relate.  I was a scrapbook shopper addict and I needed help.  I feel like this group was like my Alcoholics Annonymous although it isn't annonymous on the group.  In fact the total opposite.  They are so wonderful and always commenting on the layouts posted.  There is so much positivity and support that it's a refreshing change.

I was so excited when Two Peas in a Bucket started their series of videos called Scrap Your Stash.  I figured this would fall right in line to helping me use up some of my supplies.  But I was sadly dissapointed when I saw them using brand new products.  I was hoping I would see them using up buttons or washi or maybe even patterened paper.  Everybody has an abundace of this and it would be nice to see videos on it.  So I've decided I'm going to start my own series of "Scrap Your Stash" with my own twist.  Every Saturday will be "Saturday Stash Dive" where we will dive into some of our massive collections of stickers, buttons, brads, washi, etc.  and use them in a different way to get them used up.  I'm not sure if it will be videos or if it will just be blog posts, but watch here for more information.

I thought It would be fun for me to post the first 25 (plus one) pictures of my projects.  You will see them below.  They are in no particular order.

Posting Issues.

I just thought I would let everyone know that I'm having issues making up my posts.  I've been trying to post videos from my YouTube account, but it keeps saying that I have no videos under my account.  I've been doing some research and apparently this is an ongoing issue with Blogger and they are working on the problem.  As soon as it is fixed I will post the videos for the layouts I made.  Until that time, I will add the photos of the layouts.

These are my April Studio Calico Kit layouts.

Be Creative - NSD challenge

Here is another double duty layout that I made for NSD challenge.  This time is was for Studio Calico and Shimelle.com.

Studio Calico - Give mixed media a try

Shimelle.com - Paint it up

I used a background pattern paper from MME Follow Your Heart, Be Amazing.  I added some Distress Ink in Tumbled Glass to the edges.  I then used a piece of white cardstock and added some Salty Ocean and Broken China Distress Paint.  I needed another softer blue color so I mixed Picket Fence and Broken China Distress Paint together to get a softer blue.  I then added some Tim Holtz Tissue Paper and some vintage book text.  I then added some gesso paint, just to soften everything down and make the tissue and book paper mix into the background.  I then added some Tim Holtz Distress Stamps to the corners of the paper.  I then dove into my flower, metal embellishment and lace stash to add more texture to the page.  I really love the final look.

At the Palace - NSD Challenge

So I got double duty out of this layout.  I made this layout for NSD challenges.  For both Two Peas in a Bucket and Shimelle.com it was to scraplift yourself.  I chose a layout that I made last year and I had a lot of fun scrapbooking it last time.  And it was pretty easy to get everything together this time especially since all I had to do was follow my older layout.

This is my older layout.  I just loved the softer colors in it, but I wanted to dress it up for my updated layout.  I really like all the bright colors of my newer layout.

Thanks for looking.

Faces - NSD Challenges

Yet again another layout made for NSD.  This again was for 2 challenges.

Two Peas - make a layout based on a bookmark or Pin

Shimelle.com challenge 20 - scrapbook smaller photos.

So this is probably one of my favorite layouts from NSD.  It's so simple and yet so awesome.  I used a bookmark from Two Peas in a Bucket.  The lady that created the original is sabscreas and she posted it 03/02/13.  I really liked the black and white photos and the all of the black elements against the white background with the pop of yellow.  I knew I wanted to use this photo collage of my nephew and me making crazy faces.

There really isn't very much for embellishment.  There is only washi tape and a lot of stamps.  The only other paper besides the background cardstock, is the cardstock I used to cut out the title and the die cut stars.

Thanks for looking.

Smile - NSD Challenge

Here again is another National Scrapbook Day Challenge layout.  I again made this layout for 2 different challenges.

Two Peas in a Bucket - The challenge was to make a layout using products that are related to photography or photos.

Shimelle.com challenge 23 was to scrap your stash.

Well I have an abundance of paper.  So that's where I started.  I looked in my scrap basket and I actually had tons of photography related items.  The only full 12x12 paper I used was the geotag paper from Studio Calico.  The other papers were all scraps.  The yellow print has cameras on it, but it was really bright so I had a piece of vellum that was the exact same size.  So I used that to cover up the camera print and soften it down a bit.  Then I found the filmstrip die cut paper from KI memories.  It was the same size as the camera paper, so I of course was destined to use it.  I then found a Polaroid die cut frame in my stash as well.  This is also from KI memories.

I can honestly say it felt really good to get into my scrap basket and use up some of my scraps.

Hope you enjoy the photo.

NSD 2013 - Birthday Wishes

I made this layout for National Scrapbook Day.  I was keeping a few of the challenges in mind when I created this so I could use it for them.

For Two Peas in a Bucket, the challenge was to use a Glitter Girl as inspiration.  I chose Wilna.  It isn't my normal style but I really love the girly flair to it.  So no better time than NSD.

For Shimell.com, her challenge 24 was to scrapbook a milestone.  I chose my very recent 36th birthday.  There were no pictures for my 36th birthday, because I was on my way home from the hospital after having surgery.  So even though it was uneventful, I knew I wanted to document the fact that I was in the hospital and my feelings about being there on such a special day.

I hope you enjoy the pictures.
